The She Leads Experience

“She Leads is the opportunity for the Power Coalition for Equity and Justice to honor and lift women grassroots leaders throughout the state. Our past class leveraged their leadership skills and continue to break barriers changing the trajectory of Louisiana. We are so happy to be a part of that change. As always, we are excited to help community leaders access technical assistance, resources, and the opportunity to grow their work in the community. As a Black women-led organization, we know the importance of centering women in policy and preparing them for leadership. When we center women, we all win! ”

“It is an honor that I was selected for this fellowship, as it has allowed me to return to my roots which I believed helped shape and mold me into the activist I am today. Additionally, it is my belief, these funds afforded me the opportunity to enhance the work I have done over the past 20 years, and it is this solid foundation on which I stand. I remain desirous of continuing the work of making a genuine variance for the youth of Baton Rouge, my fellow citizens, and society as a whole.

She Leads helped me as a burgeoning organizer by linking me with a statewide cohort of women and trainings that helped me see political progress from a statewide view. Because of She Leads I made friendships that will last a lifetime and I’m doing the work in my community that has a real impact.

I am currently working on a youth conference to teach the young ladies about self-love, respecting themselves and others, teaching them how to dress for a job interview, how to do a job or college application, and how to do great as an interviewee.

“Because of She Leads’ financial support, I was able to complete the Greater Shreveport Leadership Program, build a website, receive consultation from a nonprofit expert, build a network of like-minded individuals, strengthen my leadership skills, and establish partnerships, among other things.”
