We want to hear about your experiences with registering, verifying, or changing your information, formally incarcerated, absentee ballots, voting, or any other situation you’ve encountered while trying to participate in any of the past local, state, or federal elections. If you need immediate assistance, call 504-881-3614 Since the Supreme Court gutted the heart of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, states—particularly those in the Deep South—have passed voter suppression laws that target historically disenfranchised communities, particularly voters of color. Without the protections of Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, states and local jurisdictions are free to implement election changes without first determining whether those changes will harm voters. Further, lack of training, oversight and resources in conducting elections causes confusion, delays, and even discriminatory outcomes for voters simply attempting to cast their ballot.
