Consuming drugs is a victimless action; it is not violating other persons right or property. And thus trying to control individual’s choices will never be successful.
Considering the high percentage of students who have a parent impacted by the criminal legal system, do you believe schools should address this traumatic reality for children?
Yes
Please expand on this answer.
Schools should teach how the legal system operates; not indoctrinate to certain beliefs.
Do you think youth who commit crimes should be treated as adults?
Yes
How will you invest in preventions and supports (such as addressing education, mental health services, and poverty) and rehabilitation as an alternative to incarceration?
Support the local levels to educate and provide guidance to health services. This is not a federal issue; rather a State and local issue.
Do you believe we should ensure schools are being held accountable to the community in their implementation of alternatives to suspension such as PBIS and restorative justice practice?
What provisions will you put in place to ensure this occurs?
Comments on Criminal Justice
Criminal Justice is not a School Issue.

Across Louisiana, there is a shortage of rental homes affordable and available to extremely low income households (ELI), whose incomes are at or below the poverty guideline or 30% of their area median income (AMI). Many of these households are severely cost burdened, spending more than half of their income on housing. Severely cost burdened poor households are more likely than other renters to sacrifice other necessities like healthy food and healthcare to pay the rent, and to experience unstable housing situations like evictions, creating a housing crisis. Is addressing this potential crisis a top priority for you?
No
Do you believe child labor requirements should be relaxed in order to allow minors to work up to eight hours before receiving a recreation or meal break (they are currently required for minors at least once every five hours)?
Yes
Do you believe there should be work-reporting requirements for Medicaid recipients?
Yes
Do you support federal paid family and medical leave policies that will allow workers the ability to take paid family and medical time off to care for ill family members or new born children and still receive needed pay to support the family?
No
Do you support expanding the federal Child Tax Credit, making it fully refundable and paying it in monthly installments, as happened in 2021 before it was allowed to expire?
No

Education is not a Federal issue.
Do you support a Green New Deal?
No
As one of the nation’s leading petrochemical exporters, what will you do on a national level to protect the citizens of the state and particularly in “Cancer Alley” from the harmful effects of producing these materials that can lead to respiratory complications and other severe health concerns?
Hold businesses accountable in a court of law.
Do you support federal investment in renewable energy?
No
Do you support a moratorium on petrochemical buildout and expansion in Louisiana's industrial corridor?
No

Expansion of the Federal Government
What Committees do you think you would add value to and why?
Commerce; because we can start by eliminating Federally mandated licensing laws.
What two things do you think you can accomplish in your first term?
1. Slow the expansion of Federal Spending, 2. Slow the expansion of foreign entanglements.

Considering the high percentage of students who have a parent impacted by the criminal legal system, do you believe schools should address this traumatic reality for children?
Yes
Please expand on this answer.
A child's basic needs must be met before they can consume academic instruction and participate in a classroom environment. Addressing trauma through mental health support in schools is needed to ensure students are prepared for the learning environment when they enter the classroom.
Do you think youth who commit crimes should be treated as adults?
No
How will you invest in preventions and supports (such as addressing education, mental health services, and poverty) and rehabilitation as an alternative to incarceration?
We need a criminal justice system designed to prevent crime and prevent repeat offenses through effective rehabilitation methods. We need to transition away from an archaic punishment system. Police need access to mental health facilities and mental health professionals as part of police response. Mental health support in school and a larger investment in education is the proactive approach to crime prevention.
Do you believe we should ensure schools are being held accountable to the community in their implementation of alternatives to suspension such as PBIS and restorative justice practice?
Yes
What provisions will you put in place to ensure this occurs?
We need an ongoing structure to review the results of implementing the alternative program. This continuous review of methods and effectiveness is required to ensure we best serve our students and families.

Expanding voting access, restricting gerrymandering and campaign finance reform so that our voting and election system has the integrity voters deserve.
Do you support the passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to restore and strengthen the Voting Rights act of 1965?
Yes
Comments on Democracy
We must solidify the commitment to accessible and secure voting through legislation. The 2016 administrations false claims have endangered Americans trust in our election system and disenfranchised voters. We must reestablish that trust and ensure every American has access to the polls and that their votes are respected by our leaders.
Do you favor raising the federal minimum wage?
Yes

Comments on Immigration
We should have a non-partisan organized effort to streamline immigration to enhance our industries and continue to expand American culture to be a diverse nation of immigrants on which we were founded. I see immigration as a net positive for American culture and economy. America should always be where humanitarian needs are met and responded to with robust immigration support.
What do you perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?
We must unite our country around common beliefs that improve the quality of life for all Americans and end the partisan divide. Without a collaborative approach to policy and legislation, we won't be able to address the most significant threats to our nation. We must move forward with policies addressing the climate crisis while ensuring a strong economy and securing our most basic human rights to life and liberty.
What Committees do you think you would add value to and why?
Budget, Education & Labor, Transportation and Infrastructure, Energy & Commerce.
What two things do you think you can accomplish in your first term?

The proliferation of drugs and use of addictive substances are on the rise starting at a younger age. Fentanyl OD's are occurring at an alarming rate. There are societal, socioeconomic, and policy reasons contributing to this. Policy bolsters the supply side while societal norms add to the demand side. The war today seems to focus primarily on the supply side, but the demand side is the true kingmaker of the drug trade. More is needed to curb demand.
Considering the high percentage of students who have a parent impacted by the criminal legal system, do you believe schools should address this traumatic reality for children?
Yes
Please expand on this answer.
There is direct correlation with student grade levels/success and parental involvement, even more so with the inclusion of both parents. Children born into a situation that lacks this support should get it through their school system. This support will help build their learning capabilities, confidence, and future opportunities.
Do you think youth who commit crimes should be treated as adults?
No
How will you invest in preventions and supports (such as addressing education, mental health services, and poverty) and rehabilitation as an alternative to incarceration?
This is a multi-generational problem where building the fundamental fabric of a strong family can address it much quicker and longer lasting than incarceration or government programs. However, many effective programs can be implemented to guide, support, encourage, and teach fundamental family dynamics. Parents, siblings and family have the greatest emotional connection and concern for the wellbeing of their loved ones, and hence the greatest motivation and influence. This can be a powerful driver is used properly.
Do you believe we should ensure schools are being held accountable to the community in their implementation of alternatives to suspension such as PBIS and restorative justice practice?
Yes
What provisions will you put in place to ensure this occurs?
If it goes to strengthen the results of their programs by encouraging further parental engagement. Often the problem lies in the parent enabling bad behavior by blindly siding with their child when teacher support is needed. The accountability is to allow parents to know what disciplinary actions are approved, and to support schools when behavior warrants such action to teach personal accountability.

I elected not to answer the reproductive health care question as it's wording is disingenuous. I can not support later-term abortion right up to and including the moment of birth. That is simply not "health care".

We are fighting the wrong way. Criminal behavior comes as a result of lack of other opportunities reflective of talents and interests that can provide for a family. If we instead shifted to strengthening infrastructure around education and healthcare, we would see the long-term shift in drug related activity.

How will you invest in preventions and supports (such as addressing education, mental health services, and poverty) and rehabilitation as an alternative to incarceration?
I will learn all I can about alternatives to incarceration from experts. In education, I can be of much service. Including the family as a resource can be helpful in supporting students and will be important to consider (family counseling, parenting classes, etc.).
Do you believe we should ensure schools are being held accountable to the community in their implementation of alternatives to suspension such as PBIS and restorative justice practice?
Yes
What provisions will you put in place to ensure this occurs?
I believe there are already provisions in place, in most/all states. Having that data be reviewed and LEAs supported to improve would be a plan to make with a group of experts.
Comments on Criminal Justice
We need to reevaluate what we criminalize and how people are treated for breaking societal norms. We need more collaboration with mental health and education professionals for those incarcerated. People should not be making money by keeping people in cages. If we spend more frontloading enriching childhood experiences, we could avoid so much of the criminal activity in adulthood.

It is essential that every voice be able to vote.
Do you favor raising the federal minimum wage?
Yes
If yes, what would you raise it to immediately? By 2025?
Immediately, to $10. By 2025, I would have to consult with financial experts. However, food servers in Louisiana need a higher wage per hour, also. $2.13 has never been a fair wage.

We need a "pathway to professionalism" included in our Visa process. We also need to not let people be kept in cells for being poor or at risk of violence.
What do you perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?
Foreign Relations: The global is seeing such crises and aggression lately. We will have to address a great many situations between our nation and other nations, as well as between other nations apart from us. Poverty: This complex issue needs our prompt attention. There are needs in education; so, we can prepare our future
What Committees do you think you would add value to and why?
Education & Labor: As a professional educator with an advanced degree who understands language acquisition, I will be able to positively impact education. With ever increasing languages within the US and more economic interaction internationally, I believe having a bilingual on board will help with certain discussions around education and demand in labor. Worker rights are also an important topic, and because I care about people in general, I want to ensure the most good is done for the majority of people. Ethics: I have been trained annually on ethics for state employees, and I see the need for ethics to be reviewed in Congress. Money muddies issues, and we need to clear about just who we represent.
What two things do you think you can accomplish in your first term?

Banning drugs doesn’t address the root causes for demand of drugs. The war on drugs is propagated by the prison industrial complex and pharmaceutical lobbyists. It has been an objective failure and we must redirect funds in a way that effectively address the drug crisis.

Do you think youth who commit crimes should be treated as adults?
No
How will you invest in preventions and supports (such as addressing education, mental health services, and poverty) and rehabilitation as an alternative to incarceration?
Housing is a critical element in addressing our mental health crisis. It’s one of those Maslow hierarchy deals. People are perpetually pushed to the edge trying to maintain shelter for themselves and their families. Then one injury, illness, pandemic later you’re homeless. We need Housing Security, to protect municipalities from involuntary homelessness. Having someone to talk to about your issues don’t mean much when ur issue is you’re homeless.

I believe Universal Primary Care is a reasonable goal to aspire to. One of the limiting factors in achieving this is the lack of trained professionals in the medical field. The labor force would be overwhelmed if we M4A was enacted tomorrow. This isn’t an excuse to not do anything. We should invest in Education and professional training. Education is the most lucrative investment a country can make.

Do you favor raising the federal minimum wage?

To be honest we need substantial labor reform. 4 day work weeks provide a better work/life balance. When you have to dedicate so much of your time to work you have no time to be a family the work week should be 20hrs full time. And since we are working fewer hours we need our wages to increase dramatically, $69 an hr should be the minimum wage. The 4/20/69 agenda.I support 4 day, 20 hour weeks, $69 an hour.

Across Louisiana, there is a shortage of rental homes affordable and available to extremely low income households (ELI), whose incomes are at or below the poverty guideline or 30% of their area median income (AMI). Many of these households are severely cost burdened, spending more than half of their income on housing. How will you invest in preventions and supports (such as addressing education, mental health services, and poverty) and rehabilitation as an alternative to incarceration?
Education can be handled by properly funding scholastic endeavors instead of sport teams. And as my website states I hope to increase funding to schools via the legalization of cannabis. I would also see the creation of a work program to complete public infrastructure. For non violent short time offenders with a goal of 20 percent prisoner involvement. And we will pay half minimum wage for this work so as not to burden the prisoners families.
Do you believe we should ensure schools are being held accountable to the community in their implementation of alternatives to suspension such as PBIS and restorative justice practice?

Gun background checks Obviously criminals getting guns is a problem but until we can't go buy crack in any neighborhood gun control is a pipe dream. If we do away with guns knives will be used or cars or the internet and then chemical weapons or ieds we can't make a law to remove the evil from men's hearts.

Inflation is at an all time high. I eat 2 meals a day currently as I can't afford to eat 3 meals a day. This needs to be fixed. The quantity and quality of drugs on the street remain sufficient to satisfy the demand. Criminalization has not prohibited in preventing anyone who wants to use drugs from using drugs. It has succeeded in making the use of illegal drugs far more dangerous because fentanyl is now the go-to substance - 100,000 drug overdose fatalities last year. Despite 50 years of arrests and incarcerations, there does not appear to have been any measurable reduction in the number of people using drugs. In addition to the problems associated with addition, criminalization creates huge pools of money which are used to fund drug dealers, law enforcement, prisons, and court systems. Legalize drugs, then addicts will know what substance they are using, we will know who the addicts are, and the money can be used for education and treatment.

Education is the cornerstone of a functioning democracy. Anything that can be done to provide more education to more people is a good thing. There should be some restraint on banks and their predatory lending practices to unsophisticated college students. The debt should be dischargeable in bankruptcy and the university should bear the burden of their poor lending practices, not the students.
