Louisiana Statewide Election Tuesday, November 8th

For Immediate Release

Voters across the state of Louisiana will have the opportunity to cast their vote for important elected positions and amendments this November 8th. The 2022 elections in Louisiana are proving to be extremely crucial this year, with some positions and amendments on the ballot that we may not have a chance to vote on for years to come. Polling Locations will be open from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Power Coalition for Equity and Justice will be providing rides to the polls all day on election day as well as operating from our headquarters in New Orleans, as a base for over 100 volunteers who will be canvassing, phone and text banking, as well as carrying out election protection efforts. We have similar operations occurring in Baton Rouge, Alexandria, Lake Charles, and Shreveport.

This year we are continuing our deep partnership with the NAACP’s Legal Defense Fund, to carry out election protection efforts throughout the state. We will be dispatching Non-Partisan Poll Monitors at polling locations in all of our areas of operation and beyond to ensure that any efforts to electioneer, hinder or suppress the vote will be assessed by volunteers and staff. This is the first election protection effort of its kind in the state of Louisiana, and Power Coalition is excited to be at the forefront of an initiative that will hopefully continue to grow for years to come.

“Power Coalition’s integrated data driven Get out the Vote Program is built on years of engaging voters of color across the state in every election. This year was no different as we registered thousands of voters across the state and educated them on key races and amendments such as the Public Service Commissioner. We are in every major area of Louisiana, building on the community infrastructures that exist to engage with Black and Brown constituents to activate Power and amplify them in any way we can.” says Founder and CEO of Power Coalition, Ashley Shelton.

Power Coalition for Equity and Justice (PCEJ) is dedicated to supporting and coordinating civic and voter engagement across Louisiana. We are guided by values of justice and racial equity and work with our partners to build an integrated civic engagement strategy that amplifies the voices of those who have historically been ignored, and organize them into a unified movement. PCEJ focuses on building power in traditionally marginalized communities, particularly Black and Brown communities, by equipping people with the knowledge and information they need to find their voice and learn where and when to use it.
