Legislative Session Update 5/31/22

Here’s what happened last week at the Louisiana Legislature:

Electoral Justice: Power Coalition Priority HB 1082 for modernized election planning passed favorably out of committee and heads to the Senate floor!

Power Coalition Priority HB 1065  for poll site change notifications passed out of committee and heads to the Senate floor!

Power Coalition Priority HCR 14 for voting accessibility passed favorably out of the legislature! This is a MAJOR WIN for us! We are so thankful to our partners and community who supported this necessary resolution.

Power Coalition Priority HB 1083 to stop hair discrimination (The CROWN Act) passed out of committee and will move to the Senate floor.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our priorities!

This Week:

Gender Justice: Unfortunately, SB 44, which would ban trans athletes from playing sports with their peers, passed out of the legislature. We can still stop this horrible bill by calling upon the Governor to VETO! You can take action HERE!

Health JusticeHB 640, which would encourage vaccine hesitancy, was killed in Senate Health and Welfare. Thank you to everyone who took action against this dangerous bill and to Louisiana Families for Vaccines for their leadership
