Legislative Session Update 5/10/22

Here’s what happened last week at the Louisiana Legislature:

Carceral JusticeHB 726, which would stop courts from incarcerating people for their inability to pay fines and fees, passed out of committee and moves to the House floor! A huge S/O to our partners at JAC and VOTE for their leadership on this important bill!

Education Justice: Power Coalition priority HB 189, which would allow wealthy Baton Rouge school districts to redraw district boundaries to exclude a racially diverse area, was deferred. A huge thank you to everyone who showed up and showed out to give powerful testimony against this racist bill!
