Legislative Session Update 4/9/22

Here’s what happened last week at the Louisiana Legislature:

Health: HB 784, which would provide support for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders/ maternal mental health passed favorably through committee and moves to the House floor. Thank you to Frankie Robertson from the Amandla Group and NBEC for your leadership and to everyone in our community who contacted your legislators!

Vaccines: HB 54, which would make requiring vaccine status a crime of discrimination, passed through committee with amendments and will move to the House floor. We are opposing this bill with our partners at Louisiana Families for Vaccines and will continue to oppose any bills that put the health of our community members at risk.

Housing: HB 160, which would protect renters from being evicted during natural disasters, unanimously passed the House Floor and will move to the Senate. Huge S/O to our partners at LAFHAC for their leadership on this bill!

Voting Rights: HB 35, which would require an annual canvass of voters, removing registered voters who do not respond from the registered voters list, passed through committee and will be heard on the House floor. We are opposing this bill with our partners and will continue to oppose any bill that seeks to make voting more tedious for Louisiana residents.
