For Immediate Release

This Election Season the Power Coalition for Equity and Justice is providing Faith Leaders across the state of Louisiana with mini-grants to bring Souls to the Polls. This initiative is a part of PCEJ’s statewide Get Out The Vote (GOTV) strategy that has been in place leading up to the general election and the following run-off. As the Power Coalition gears up for a crucial election season with important elected positions and amendments on the ballot, it is more critical than ever that we meet voters where they are. Communities of faith are sources of engagement socially, emotionally, and spiritually for hundreds of thousands of people across Louisiana; we hope to mobilize them civically as well.

As of November 7th, 2022, PCEJ has allocated nearly 20,000 dollars to more than 15 Faith Leaders based in Alexandria, New Orleans, Lake Charles, Shreveport, East and West Baton Rouge, and other locations across the state. The funds that are being allocated are going directly to the leaders and their organizations, allowing them to use them at their own discretion to fulfill their community needs on Election Day and leading up to the runoffs.

“One of the ways that Power Coalition operates is by leveraging our assets to provide others with capacity in whichever way they need it. Because faith communities hold such an important space in many Black and Brown communities, we believe that endowing those who are well acquainted with those communities with the capacity to engage in their own voter outreach work is going to be extremely impactful, and is already proving to be so,” says CEO and Founder of PCEJ, Ashley Shelton.

The Faith Leader Mini grant is live on PCEJ’s website and will be accepting submissions through the runoff. We hope to continue to reach faith communities around the state, and enable them to enact the change they wish to see when it comes to voter engagement.

Power Coalition for Equity and Justice (PCEJ) is dedicated to supporting and coordinating civic and voter engagement across Louisiana. We are guided by values of justice and racial equity and work with our partners to build an integrated civic engagement strategy that amplifies the voices of those who have historically been ignored, and organize them into a unified movement. PCEJ focuses on building power in traditionally marginalized communities, particularly Black and Brown communities, by equipping people with the knowledge and information they need to find their voice and learn where and when to use it.
